One part carnival, one part surreal satire, Slattery’s Sago Saga is Flann O’Brien’s last and incomplete quixotic novel, intended for full-scale production at Castletown House in Summer 2010. The play marries O’Brien’s hallucinatory verve with Riordan’s razor-sharp wit to produce a script that is both a high-energy farce and a telling critique of contemporary Ireland. The reading is of a working draft. Slattery’s Sago Saga tells the story of an eminently nonsensical plan to outlaw the Irish potato and plant forests of “Sago Palm Trees” in their place.
The Performance Corporation are the resident theatre company at Castletown House and are supported in their work by The Arts Council, Kildare County Council and OPW.
